Vocal doubler
Double your vocal without singing it twice
A real double is a second take: a little late, a little out of tune, never quite the same. Twin makes those copies from one take and spreads them around the original, so the vocal sounds thicker and wider.
How to double vocals
- Double the parts that should feel big: hooks, choruses and ad-libs. Keep verses single so the chorus can open up.
- Start subtle: 2 copies, 5 to 15 cents of detune and 10 to 30 ms of delay. In Twin, the Natural Double preset.
- Pan the copies wide and keep the original in the middle, so the lead stays clear and the double wraps around it.
- Cut the lows of the copies (below about 150 Hz) so the double adds width, not mud.
- Check in mono. If the vocal gets thin or hollow, use less detune or a shorter delay, then set the Mix.

Questions
Is a doubler plugin as good as singing it twice?
A real second take is still the gold standard for a lead. A doubler gets very close, and it's better when you only have one take, need it right now, or the second take doesn't line up. Many producers use both: a real double plus a plugin for extra width.
How much detune and delay for a vocal double?
5 to 15 cents of detune and 10 to 30 ms of delay sounds like a natural double. More detune sounds like a chorus; less than 10 ms of delay starts to sound like flanging.
Why does my doubled vocal sound bad in mono?
Copies that are late and detuned can cancel parts of the original when left and right are added together on a phone or a club system. Keep the delay and detune moderate and check with a mono button (Twin has one) before you commit.
Should I double the whole vocal?
Usually not. Doubling everything makes the vocal wide but less personal. Double the hook and the last words of lines, and leave verses single and upfront.
