Questions
What does saturation do?
Saturation adds harmonics: quiet copies of each note at 2, 3 and 4 times its frequency. A little makes a sound warmer, fuller and easier to hear on small speakers. More turns it gritty, and a lot turns it into fuzz. It's what old tape machines and tube gear did to everything recorded through them.

Tube, Tape or Fuzz: which one?
Tube is warm and round: great on vocals, keys and bass. Tape is softer and smoother, and glues drums and whole mixes. Fuzz is crunchy and loud: for 808s, guitars and synths that should bite.
Why does it matter that it's volume matched?
Saturation also makes a sound louder, and louder always seems better. Toaster turns the level back down as you turn it up, so you hear the warmth itself and can judge it honestly.
Which DAWs does it work in?
Any DAW that loads VST3 or AU plugins: FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, Bitwig and more. Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11.
Where do I start?
Put it on a bass or 808 that vanishes on phone speakers, pick Tube and turn TOAST up until the notes show up on a small speaker. On a whole mix, keep it light and use the Mix knob to blend it in.
